The school has seen the percentage of students gaining at least five passes, including Maths and English,  increase from last year, alongside this 20 per cent of all grades were  A*’s or A’s.

Biology, Physics and Chemistry were the top performing GSCE subjects as 100 per cent of students achieved A* -C grades,  with the percentage of students gaining A* – C in additional science increasing by over a third since last year. Meanwhile Health and Social Care and IT came out on top in the vocational subjects.

Headteacher, Mr Patrick Earnshaw, said: “Our students have, once again, shown an immense dedication to their studies and the outcome is an impressive collective of results.

“The GCSE results, coupled with the A Level results gained last week, demonstrate what talented and committed students we have at Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre. I would like to congratulate all students on their individual achievements and thank all the staff, parents and carers who have guided and supported students throughout their studies.”

Rosa, was the top performing student at Carr Hill this year and also ranks amongst the top performing students in the school’s history. Rosa achieved 9 A*’s , 3 A’s and a Distinction. Rosa will return to Carr Hill Sixth Form in September to study A Levels in Maths, English, History, Spanish and Art.

Rosa said: “I was dreading opening my results as you never know how well you have done, even if you feel confident leaving an exam. I am especially pleased with my A*s in Physics and Spanish and I know my mum will be happy with my A* in Biology as she is a Biology teacher.”

Philip achieved the best results of the male students this year. He said: “I’m thrilled to have achieved these results. I can’t believe that I got an A in English Literature as I have been working towards that grade all year and haven’t manage to achieve it. I didn’t sleep much last night so it is a relief to know what I’ve got.”

Nicola ranked fourth in her year due to achieving 3 A*’s, 8 A’s, 1 B and 1 Distinction. Nicola will return to Carr Hill Sixth Form in September to study A Levels in Maths, Physics, Geography and Art.

Nicola said: “I’m shocked with my results, I didn’t think I had done as well as I have. I’m so happy with my grades, particularly my A* in Maths as I’m taking it as an A Level subject from September. I’m looking forward to starting Sixth Form and studying my chosen subjects.”  

And it was not just the year 11 students celebrating with many year 10 pupils taking a number of GCSE subjects early. Amongst them was Ishwar, who gained two A*s in French and History. Ishwar said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my grades. I achieved A’s in my mock exams earlier in the year and was not expecting to go up another grade in just a few months.”

Fellow year 10 student Amy was pleased with her results, an A* in Geography and a B in Spanish, she said: “I feel much better about next year now I have got a couple of GCSEs under my belt. I know how important it is to revise and be prepared in order to gain the best results you can.”

Well done to all year 10 and 11 students who have received their GCSE results!
