'This Girl Can'

This project aims to give girls in Years 9, 10 and 11 the opportunity to try and experience new activities within school every Monday evening from 3:15pm - 4:15pm (times do change). Activities on offer include Clubbercise sessions, colour dash rush, yoga, body combat, body pump and many more.

We are employing an external instructor to lead some of these sessions every week all the way through to the end of the academic year. Alongside the practical sessions, we will be providing education on healthy eating and mental health sessions, which are optional.

A presentation with more information can be found here - This Girl Can

'This Girl Can' visit to Fusion Trampoline Park

Mrs Carroll took some of the 'This Girl Can' attendees to Fusion Trampoline Park in Preston for a fitness session. They did some aerobics on the trampolines, followed by free jumping time and flying around the ceiling on the 'Sky Rider'! Everyone had a great time and a selection of photos can be seen below.

'This Girl Can' walk Nicky Nook for Comic Relief

'This Girl Can' sessions have been running since the beginning of the academic year and some of this has included fundraising for charities. On Friday 18th March 2022 15 students took part in a walk at Nicky Nook, Scorton, to raise money for Red Nose Day and Comic Relief. The students raised £50 and thoroughly enjoyed the day out, even though the climbing part was hard work. It was a great chance for the students to spend the day out in nature, and luckily in the sunshine, with one of them also celebrating with a birthday picnic lunch. Well done to Erin G, Alyssa, Marieme, Emily A, Olivia, Paige, Cordelia, Emily R-K, Evie, Emily W, Bobbie, Lydia, Imogen, Katie and Sophie. Thank you to Mrs Carroll and the staff who assisted with the day.

The video below shows a selection of photos the students took on the walk -

'This Girl Can' Active Mile Challenge

In November, the 'This Girl Can' students took part in the 'Lancashire School Games Active Mile Challenge' which took place on the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area). Students walked, hopped, cycled, skipped or in some cases walked 'three-legged' to complete the active mile.

The students loved being outside with their friends, completing this challenge together as part of a team. Students were invited to wear a Christmas themed outfit and Erin G wore a handmade Christmas brussels sprout jumper, which looked amazing! Katie managed to complete the whole mile on her uni-cycle, well done Katie! A selection of photos can be seen below.

Mrs Carroll said, "The girls have been fantastic today completing the active mile challenge, the girls had a great time doing this active challenge whilst also having fun with their peers. If anyone would like to get involved with our This Girl Campaign, please see me for more details. We have many exciting activities planned for the new year so come and give it a go!!!"
