There is no weekly newsletter today.
Following my message to parents of Year 9 and 10 this week it is clear that there is very much a demand for the New York trip in February 2025 and that this would be more than viable. We will make the booking and have letters ready early after the half term break.
Congratulations to Farrell, Alex F, Gabs, Rhys, Ella, Selina, Milana, Megan, Imogen, Teagan, Amber and Joseph in Year 9 for all their work in the BAE challenge. Well done!
Also congratulations to the rewards of the week in our new system:
- Commitment - Annie (Year 9)
- Aspiration - Jacob (Year 11)
- Resilience - Linda (Year 7)
- Respect - Sophie (Year 9)
- Highest reward points - Gracie (Year 7)
- Most 5s in lessons - Kabaenda (Year 10)
I wish all our students, families and staff a very good half term break. Could I please ask that any uniform issues are sorted over half term so that students return appropriately dressed and with correct shoes. Could I also stress the importance of attendance again - students should be in school unless absolutely unavoidable. If they feel sick send them in... and if they have to go home later we can sort it.
Regards

Blackpool Theatre Collective 'College Insight Day'
Broadcast to Year 11 Parents/Carers on 10 January 2024 -
It is very obvious from the national news that there is something of a crisis regarding attendance in England's schools. Where school attendance used to be around 95% it is now only just above 90% meaning that a high proportion of students are missing the equivalent of at least one day (5 lessons) every two weeks. Where attendance falls below 90% there is a significant decrease in the chances of achieving 5 GCSE passes. In fact only 36% of students nationally achieve 5 GCSE passes if attendance is below 90% whereas 86% of those whose attendance is above 90% do so.
We are now just over half way through the number of teaching weeks in Year 11 before the summer exams and year 11 attendance is just over 88%. This is worrying. Please do send students in to school to maximise their chances of success in the summer and do not accept excuses off them unless there is something serious. If there is something that we can help with to get them into school please do get in touch with Miss Clancy or Miss Coulthard.
In the next few days we will send a text with current attendance to the parents/carers of any students below 95%. In the words of the Department for Education's mantra 'Moments matter, attendance counts'.
Regards
Andrew Waller
