Carr Hill High School and Sixth Form Centre students, parents, staff and local dignitaries came together to celebrate the many achievements of pupils past and present.

Students who finished year 11 in July this year were awarded for their achievements during the 2013/2014 school year. The pupils, many of whom are now members of Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre, were awarded for Highest Overall GSCE score, Most Improved Student and the Kirkham Rotary Club Good Citizens Award, to name just a few.

Previous year 13 students also came to the ceremony to be recognised for their achievements whilst studying for their A Levels during the last academic year. Awards were given to students who had accomplished 100 per cent attendance over their seven years at school, made the biggest contribution to Sixth Form life and made excellent achievements at Key Stage 5.

In both the year 11 and 13 awards students were given prizes for the highest overall score in individual subjects.

The evening was attended by a number of local dignitaries including the Mayor of Kirkham Town. The school Governors were also in attendance alongside members of the Kirkham Rotary Club. Many teachers came along to support students and celebrate the results of their hard work throughout, not only their exams, but their time at Carr Hiil High School and Sixth Form Centre.

The event was opened by Acting Headteacher Mr Doyle, whilst Miss Jordinson, Deputy Head, and Miss Clancy, Assistant Head, presented the awards, before the future Headteacher, Mr Waller, delivered the closing address.

Shannon O’Sullivan was one of two recipients of the Certificate of Excellence VTCT Hair and Beauty. Shannon, who recently began a hairdressing apprenticeship with a salon in Lytham, said: “I was not expecting to receive this award so it was a nice surprise. It is nice to have the chance to come back and see old friends and teachers and let them know how I am doing.”

Elise Hall, who will begin her students at Oxford University in just a few weeks’ time, picked up awards for the Highest Overall A Level Score, the Highest Score for Physical and Biological Science and Excellent Achievement at Key Stage 5. Elise was joined at the awards by her mother and step father.

Elise’s mum said: “I’m extremely proud of Elsie’s achievements but credit must also go to her teachers who have worked hard to help my daughter achieve her dream of studying at Oxford University. It is lovely to be a part of this evening and have the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of Elsie and her friends.”

Rebecca Throup picked up three awards for the highest overall score in Drama and History and Excellent Achievement at Key Stage 5. Rebecca said: “I’m so pleased to have won the History and Drama awards as I worked very hard in those subjects and they were my favourite. I think my mum is planning to display my awards on the bookshelf in the living room!”

Deputy Headteacher, Miss Jordinson, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity to mark the efforts and accomplishments of so many of our students. Year 11 and 13 are challenging years in a student’s academic career so we feel it is important to recognise pupils who excel and achieve throughout those times.

“It also offers the staff the chance to wish our 2013/2014 year 13 well for the next stage of their life and serves as a positive introduction to the sixth form for our 2013/2014 year 11. As always this year’s event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came.”
