A weekly Technology Club has been launched to give students the chance to develop their creative skills through a range of different practical activities.

Pupils who attend the weekly club will have the chance to work on projects across textiles, cookery, ICT and product design. The club, which began at the start of November, gives pupils the chance to enhance a wide range of skills and also aims to convey the different ways in which qualifications in technology based subjects can lead to a variety of careers.

Students will work on one project over the course of 2-3 weeks and are currently half way through designing and creating their own bags, purses and Jewellery. In the coming weeks pupils will complete work in woodwork and screen printing as well as creating their own Christmas cards.

The club is run by Mrs Goulding who teaches textiles and is open to year 7, 8 and 9 students. Mrs Goulding said: “This club is about generating interest in technology and showing students the vast array of options there is within this group of subjects. There are so many opportunities and career paths that can come from studying subjects such as Textiles, Food Nutrition and Health or Engineering. Myself and a number of other teachers within this subject have come from industry so we have a real insight into the sort of options on offer if students choose to continue their studies in technology based subjects.

“Although the club has only been running for a few weeks we have already had a good turnout of students who are keen to learn more and take on the practical hands-on projects.”

Technology Club takes place every Thursday after school in room 11 between 3.15pm and 4pm.
