In the Alan Wood Studio, Mrs Williams has created a display of Year 8 work with 25 doors as an Artwork advent calendar, where staff members and most students would get to see it. Year 8 have worked incredibly hard on their Food themed project this term, in class and whilst doing homework, creating nameplates, tonal drawings, coloured pencil blended drawings and pen drawings, learning about different styles and exploring their own ideas. The artwork advent calendar gives us all a bit of festive cheer and at the same time it is a celebration of our Year 8 student's hard work.

A few of the students from Mrs Williams class came to have a look at the display, show some examples of their work and discuss what they liked about the topic. Sophie, who has 3 of her drawings displayed, said "I wanted to draw something with lots of colour", creating her nameplate first with a rainbow coloured cookie/cake ice-cream sundae with the text above - 'How can I say no to this?' It does look very tempting! Sophie also drew a very detailed tin of soup and sweet selection.

Evie explained she picked her drawings to include lots of detail, choosing a selection of vegetables with a detailed drawing of a pepper cut in half. Her drawing is a very detailed pen drawing, choosing a black and white striking image rather than colouring it in. For her other image, Evie drew a sweetie selection full of colour as well as detail.

It was a pleasure to chat to Alex, who beamed with enthusiasm about his artwork. After really struggling to enjoy any art lessons last year, he has created a drawing to be very proud of. Alex said, "I didn't know what to pick, so Mrs Williams gave us a few examples and the first one jumped out at me so I went with it." The end result is a beautifully detailed drawing of a citrus fruit cut in half using green pen. Alex has grown so much in confidence from last year, his Mum explained that Alex has struggled significantly in the past with a lack of routine to Art lessons, not enjoying them at all last year. She is so proud of the artwork he has achieved, as is Mrs Williams.

The artwork as a whole shows a very high level of ability and creativity, we have many students who enjoy and are indeed thriving in art classes with plenty of ideas and creating high quality pieces of work. Well done to all involved, and what a lovely addition to the Alan Wood Studio for us all to enjoy.
