The ‘Reading for Pleasure’  and ‘Reading Ahead’ Ambassador spent time with students from Year 8, telling them his story and how his humble start in life has developed into a plethora of successes as a result of his love for the written word.

The children’s and young adult’s author, who has 40 novels to his name one of which is a set text for GCSE English (‘Rani & Sukh’),  is often invited to speak at schools, colleges and on TV and radio to talk about his work. He has been writer-in-residence for both the Reading Agency and Booktrust, and is heavily involved in the Society of Authors and their Children’s Writers and Illustrators Group.

Bali said, “I want to encourage young people to read and develop a love of literature. I believe that success comes as a result of having a powerful brain, and a powerful brain is a result of spending time reading, enjoying the words and retaining information.  I’m a firm believer that successful people are the ones that read, and read a lot”.

School Librarian Mrs Young said, “It was a pleasure to have Bali with us today and the students were certainly inspired by his approach and story.  I hope that the students who were fortunate enough to attend one of the sessions will go home and pick up a book!”
