Students from Newton Bluecoats, Strike Lane, Singleton, Kirkham St Michaels, Weeton St Michaels, Kirkham and Wesham and Medlar with Wesham were split into teams consisting of a Project Leader, Chief Engineer, Finance Officer and Designer. They were tasked with designing and building a rocket that could reach ‘Mars’.  After conducting a design meeting, students needed to calculate their first order of resources and build the rockets before purchasing test flight slots. An air pump was used to power the rockets, and once final adjustments had been made after the test flights, the competition began with each team aiming to hit ‘Mars’, a target on the hall floor.

Math’s Teachers Mr Myers and Miss Harrop organised the event, and Mr Myers said, “It was a fantastic day and enjoyed by all.  Not only did the students learn more about engineering and calculating angles and pressure, but it also gave them opportunity to work as a team each having their own responsibility and of course enjoy a bit of friendly inter school competition”.
