Current Year 13 students were joined by family and friends to mark their achievements during their first year at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre.

Every year the school hosts an event which highlights the achievements of Year 12 students.  Pupils are recognised in every subject for being the Most Improved Student or the Top Performer. Over 60 awards were given out during the course of the evening which was hosted by Assistant Head Teacher and Director of Learning for Post 16, Miss Clancy.

Miss Clancy introduced each award and provided details of why each student had been chosen to receive that award. Every student was then invited to be presented with their award by Acting Headteacher Mr Doyle.

Miss Clancy said: “Year 12 is an important year for our students. Many pupils make substantial progress and it is essential that we recognise their efforts. The awards are a way to thank our students for all their hard work and also spur them on as they work towards the end of their final year at Carr Hill.”

Deputy Head Boy James attended the ceremony and picked up awards for the Most Improved Student in Geography and the Headteacher’s award for Deputy Head Boy. James said: “I’m proud to have won the Most Improved Student in Geography. I wasn’t expecting it but I have been working to improve my grades for a while. I achieved an A in my first mock exam this year so I can see the difference the extra effort is making to my grades.”

Fellow student Kieran won a number of awards but was particularly pleased to be given Most Improved Student in English Language. Kieran said: “I want to continue to improve in English Language as I plan to study Creative Writing at University. I’ve had offers from five Universities so it is important I get the best grade possible.

“I think that the Prize Giving event is a good idea because there can be a lot of emphasis on Year 13 and not so much on Year 12. I think it is easy to forget what an important stepping stone Year 12 is but events like this reminds everyone of that.”

Miss Clancy said: “I would like to thank everyone who joined us for the Prize Giving. I was delighted to see so many supportive family members, friends and staff in attendance. The evening was a great success and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to award so many of our talented young people.”
