The Mayor and Mayoress of Fylde were amongst the many guests to attend Carr Hill High School’s first Private View Art and Photography Evening.

The event showcased the very best art and photography work created by year 12 and 13 students. The Mayor and Mayoress were joined by local councillors, including Kirkham Cllr Louis Rigby, and other members of the community, who all had the opportunity to purchase limited prints of the students’ work.

The students exhibiting their work were allocated a display area and many had created their own business cards. With a number of the students hoping to gain apprenticeships in photography or art upon completing their qualifications, the event was the perfect opportunity to showcase their work, start to build a name for themselves and sell their designs. The pupils happily chatted to guests throughout the evening and explained the inspiration and thought processes behind their creations.

Many of the students were joined by family who had come along to see the final results of their child, grandchild or siblings hard work over the school year.  Year 13 student Jodie Dugdale, who has now left Carr Hill High School but will continue to study photography, was joined by her parents, grandparents and sister.

Jodie’s father, Mr Dugdale, said: “I think this event is absolutely excellent. It is wonderful to see the complete set of work that Jodie has completed and worked so hard on over the last few years.”

Chloe Bailey, has just finished a two year Art course at Carr Hill High School. When asked how it felt to have her work on display Chloe said: “I’m so thrilled to show other people my work and have the opportunity to share it with people in the community. I have received so many nice compliments about my art and it makes it all feel worthwhile.”

As well as showcasing their work students were also able to sell prints of their originals. Guests were able to purchase prints of a range of art and photography work with prices starting from £10. As guests mingled with students and browsed the work they were entertained by a live singer and enjoyed complimentary refreshments.

Danny Laing is a year 12 photography student and was joined by this parents for the evening. Danny’s mother, Mrs Laing said: “I think this is a wonderful opportunity to show the community the many great artists we have at Carr Hill High School. Most students have never had the opportunity to share their work with such a wide audience but this event has made that possible.”

The event was organised by art teacher Mrs Jane Wild and photographer teacher Miss Vikki Wignall. Mrs Wild said: “Our students are talents and dedicated artists who have worked hard throughout the year to deliver their individual projects. We felt it was only right to give them the opportunity to display their work as they would do at a gallery preview. The event was designed to be as realistic as possible with students having the chance to sell their work and hand out business cards to guests.

“Miss Wignall, the students and I were delighted with the turnout for the event. It is the first year we have done something like this so we really had no idea how many people would come but the school with packed with guests and the atmosphere was brilliant. We will certainly be hosting this event next year and hope for an even bigger turn out then.

“We would like to thank everyone who helped to organise the event, the students for providing such a high standard of work for us to display and all the guests who took the time to join us and celebrate our talented students.”
