STUDENTS performed a showcase of dance and gymnastics at the gym and dance display evening last Thursday.

Over 120 students from Carr Hill High School & Sixth Form Centre took part in the two hour display where a range of gymnastics, trampolining, dance and cheerleading routines were performed to an audience of over 200 parents and fellow students.

Produced by Dance teacher Miss O’Connor and PE teacher Miss Beenham the students involved performed in over 20 different acts with some students giving a hand in choreography as well as in the performances.

From ballet to jazz, street dance to cheerleading the routines were varied and students involved spent over three months rehearsing and perfecting their moves for the event.

Gymnast and dancer, Hannah Ramsbottom in Year 9 took part in 11 routines during the evening.

She said: “I really enjoyed taking part in the gym and dance display. My favourite routine was ‘Breathe Me’ which was a contemporary piece that was performed by the Elite Dance Company.

“I’d like to say thank you to Miss O’Connor and Miss Beenham for all the hard work they put into teaching us routines and helping us perfect our dance and gym techniques.”

During the afternoon, the students performed the display to our feeder primary schools who enjoyed the event thoroughly, showing many of the Year 6 students who will be joining Carr Hill in September the excellent extra-curricular activities on offer to students here.

Mrs Lowcock from Newton Bluecoat Primary School said: “Our Year 6 children and accompanying staff were amazed by the performances of the gymnasts, dancers and cheerleaders. They have certainly inspired our children to be involved when they join Carr Hill High School in September.”
