Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre shows students the pathway to success
7 February 2017
Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre welcomed over 150 guests to the A-level Pathways to Success Evening this week.
The event delivered advice and guidance about selecting A-level combinations and provided talks, led by industry professionals, for those interested in a career in engineering, medicine or nursing, public services or teaching.
Students from Carr Hill and surrounding schools were joined by their parents and carers for the evening event. Guests listened to a welcome presentation which provided general information about A-levels including changes to courses, the sixth form’s programme model, the assessment process, UCAS Tariff Standards and more.
The welcome was followed by individual careers talks covering some of the most popular and competitive industries. Representatives from BAE, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Edge Hill University and Lancashire Constabulary spoke to guests about their careers and what young people can do to improve their chances of gaining employment in their preferred industry.
Assistant Headteacher (Post 16), Mr Napier, said: “This event was a huge success and feedback from guests has been overwhelmingly positive. Staff at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre appreciate that the A-level process is new to a lot of students, parents and carers and believe that additional support, such as events like this, can help young people make informed choices about their future. We also understand that there are many different career paths to choose from and hope that by working alongside industry proffesionals we can provide our students with the tools needed to make educated decisions about their future.
“All students at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre have: the opportunity to enrol in one of our Career Preparation Programmes, access to a dedicated mentor who will assist them through out everything from work experience applications to the UCAS process, support from our Personal Development Leader and Post 16 Care Leader. All of this additional support has been designed with our students in mind to enable them to go on to do the best they can after completing their studies at Carr Hill Sixth Form Centre."
Thank you to representatives from BAE, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Edge Hill University and Lancashire Constabulary for supporting the event. To access all the presentations delivered during the A-level Pathways to Success Evening visit: http://www.carrhillschool.com/join-sf
