Over this academic year we have written articles about a very talented musician and Year 9 student, Daniel, who has achieved a Distinction in Grade 5 Trombone and won as a soloist at the Ramsbottom Music Festival. Daniel is 13 years old with significant hearing loss in his left ear, however he loves playing the trombone and hopes to become a professional musician in the future.

Music and the Deaf are currently developing vlogs featuring various musicians to raise awareness of music and deafness. They believe that everyone’s experience of music is personal and that every musician’s approach to music-making is unique. They hope that their videos will provide inspiration to others. Find out more on their website by clicking here - Music and the Deaf.

Mr Churm, Daniel's mentor, was very impressed by how Daniel comes across on the video and his superb playing. During the video Daniel explains how much he enjoys the instrument, he feels the trombone is the best brass instrument out of the brass section. Daniel regularly amazes people that he is able to memorise music and play without music sheets, much to other people's dismay.

The song Daniel plays is 'Broadband Bossa' by Mark Nightingale and showcases his range and ability. Well done Daniel, we are very proud of all you have achieved. Click below to see the video -
