A group of Year 10 students qualified as just one of 11 schools to compete at the BAE Make-It final- a competition over a hundred schools across the region entered.

 

The students came second in the heats last year and as a result they took part in the final held at Old Trafford, Manchester. Students were tasked with a client brief which involved creating an airline. The students chose to create a commercial airline with the name ‘We Fly You’. Students were required to design an aircraft, choosing which materials to use and managing the cost of the build. They were also responsible for marketing the airline creating a website concept, posters and a billboard. Team  member Harry was awarded one of just two Outstanding Individual Performance Awards for his role as Managing Director.

 

Year 10 Sam, who was the Product Design Manager on the team, said: “We learned a lot from the experience especially designing the different elements.”

 

Year 10 Abi, who was the Marketing Manager on the team, said: “We had all day to complete the task but there was plenty to keep us busy. We kept the roles we had in the last round of the competition and that helped us because we could use our experience.”
