Carr Hill High School provided every Year 11 student with the opportunity to take part in a mock interview with an external employer as part of its careers programme. Over 27 representatives from sectors including engineering, construction, NHS, law, finance, food, retail and more volunteered their time to interview students  and provide them with a real life experience of the process.

Students from Year 11 were matched with employers from sectors of interest to them as much as possible. All employers have provided feedback for the students they interviewed and that feedback will soon be shared with students to help them develop and build on their existing skills.  The careers event was organised to help students to build their confidence in an interview setting and to gain a greater understanding of the questions they may be asked and how it feels to be interviewed.

Personal Development Leader Mr Beale said: “Having the ability to interview well is an essential skill no matter what career you are interested in. This is the first time we have run an event of this scale and we are very grateful to the 27 employers who volunteered their time to make the event possible. The employers also provided detailed feedback for each student they met which will be shared with students shortly. This will give students the opportunity to see how they performed, what they did well but also what they could improve on.

“I spoke to many students following their interviews and it was clear they found the experience incredibly valuable. This is the second large scale careers event we have organised for Year 11 as they also took part in a speed networking event last May which gave them to opportunity to meet with a wide variety of different employers and find out about their companies and job roles. There is no doubt that giving our students access to experiences such as these will help them to make informed choices about their career paths following high school.”

The school would like to say a huge thank you to representatives from the following organisations for attending this event and offering their support and expertise-

Marsden Rawthorn, the Army, Warden, Eric Wright, Fox’s Biscuits, Westinghouse, Sainsburys, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, Trinity Hospice, Land Registry, BAE, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, Serendipity Gift Shop, Baxter Group, HMRC and Storey Homes.
