As part of Carr Hill’s ‘We are Reading Challenge’ we have created a number of 'student author’ posts. The work of our student authors will regularly be shared on the website, in editions of our school magazine and other communication channels. In the next of our student author contributions Year 10 Benjamin shares the first chapter from his story The Secrets of The White Estate. Thank you, Benjamin.

Chapter 1: What is White Estate?

Once there was a house called White Estate and, in this house, there were things that didn’t make sense like floating pictures and door’s that creaked. The house was on a street called Hornby Edge and it was isolated as it used to be a mental asylum before it became a house by the Lord of the Manor, Lord Bradford. It was a murky night when the thing that made the house be unable to live in happened. As the house became older the features became older and ruptured like the door. As he comes in the house the door creeks and snaps off its hinges. The door landed on the floor with a BANG and he switches on his torch and begins to look around the hall. The hall was the size of a bus and it had some scary stuff like the head of a dog and the head of a deer. The wallpaper was a blood red and the carpets were as brunet as night, he couldn’t tell if it was his imagination, but it looked like the panting's eyes moved to look at him! He heard a noise, but it was just the clock striking 12:00pm. He felt wrong and weird like his energy was draining from his body. The walls were fading he started to feel dizzy suddenly, he fainted. All he could remember was walking up to the door of the house, he couldn’t think about his family, if he had one, all he could think of is him walking uncontrollably to the door of the house. Suddenly, he could remember his name, he was called Jarvis Rosenthal and he did have a family he had a sister called Daisy, but he could not remember his mum and dad. He heard a noise it sounded like someone was scraping chalk across the chalk board. The building was starting to shake, and the pictures start to scream the most blood chilling scream in the world but then it stopped. All was silent and then a ghost flew out of the broom cupboard and another and another until there was 12 ghosts in the hallway with him, he tried to run but when he got to the door way, he was stopped by an invisible forcefield he noticed a chip in his arm. It stopped him from escaping the house
