Former pupil Rachel Armer has recently qualified as a vet having spent five years studying at Liverpool Veterinary University. Following the completion of her course Rachel is now working full time at a vets in the Thornton Cleveleys area. Rachel does daily operations unaided and consultations to diagnose and treat small animals.

Rachel has wanted to be a vet since she was just three years old following an accident her family cat had. Rachel travelled to the vets with her parents and saw how her pet was looked after. Ever since that day Rachel had her heart set on becoming a vet. In addition to her veterinary qualification, Rachel also took a gap year and spent time doing work experience with animals helping her to build up knowledge and experience.

Rachel said: “"I always enjoyed maths and science whilst at Carr Hill and I was also a keen netball player. My advice to current Carr Hill students is to work hard and make the most of your five years at high school but also make time to do the things you love outside of school. Pick A levels you enjoy but think about your long term goals and what career path your qualifications could lead you to as well."

Headteacher Mr Waller said: “We are delighted to hear that Rachel has accomplished her lifelong dream of becoming a vet. Rachel is a great example of what our students can achieve if they are focused, motivated and take up the opportunities offered to them. Congratulations Rachel. We wish you well in your career.”
