A homework timetable is drawn up each year with the homework appropriate to the ability of the pupil. Year 7 pupils should expect thirty minutes homework per subject. A maximum of three subjects should be scheduled per night. As a child progresses through the school the type of homework will increase in complexity to the demanding assignments required for GCSE coursework.
Homework is set for the following reasons -
To develop and reinforce newly acquired skills.
To extend or enhance the work stated in a lesson.
To prepare for the next lesson. This may be by researching a topic, collecting data, planning an investigation, writing a dialogue, practising a reading or physical skill or many other activities.
To learn the factual knowledge acquired.
To give practice at working independently.
