Whilst most of us enjoyed a rest over the Easter holidays, one amazing student in Year 7 completed an epic fundraising expedition, walking Wainwright's Coast-2-Coast route, from St Bee's Head all the way to Robin Hood's Bay. Kodi was aiming to raise some money for Brian House Children's Hospice, and not for the first time - what an inspirational young man he is. This is also not his first Coast-2-Coast challenge, having completed the route across on his bicycle aged only 6! He does not like a lot of fuss, and did not tell any of his teachers or his Head of Year Mr Penney about his plans, so it was a surprise for most of us to hear the following from his Nan.

"I want to tell you about one of your Pupils - Kodi aged 12yrs. You have one amazing pupil there!! He has spent his Easter Hols walking the Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk. He set off 2nd April Sunday and completed the walk yesterday afternoon (13th April). It was from St Bee's Head across to Robin Hood's Bay. He did it to raise money for Brian House Children's Hospice.

Kodi carried all his own camping equipment as they camped most nights and had only about 4 'BnBs'. His little story is on the Just Giving page under 'Kodi's Walk for Brian House Children's Hospice' (Click for link). He did the walk with his Dad - neither of them have ever walked that far. He is on Brian House web page (Click for link), but this is not the first achievement for Kodi........It started way back in 2017 when he was only 6yrs old!

It was then I took him, his Dad, and his cousin on the C2C cycle ride (Whitehaven - Tynemouth). I was not sure whether Kodi would make it - but as it happened he 'smashed it' and put us all to shame. He raised over £500 then for Brian House. He also became the youngest rider to do the C2C unaided on his own 'wheels'. Blackpool Gazette did an article on him.

Then.....it didn't stop there...the following year he cycled the Reivers coast to coast route and raised money for 'Young Careers of Blackpool' (he got the good citizen award for that).....Then he cycled 'Way of the Roses' cycle route (Morecambe-Bridlington) to raise money for Blackpool RNLI.....Then just before 'lock down' started, he cycled 'The Bay Ride' (Barrow to Glasson Dock) doing it in just ONE day with his Dad - coming into Glasson at gone 10pm! He did that one to raise funds for his Football team YMCA.

I am a very proud Nan.......for a 12 year old he has just achieved something amazing this holiday. He has found it difficult some days (and no wonder when you consider the terrain they have had to walk!!!) But chocolate and determination has kept him going haha. He met many along the way who spurred him on - and some who pulled out before the end! His mum, Julie, has documented lots of pics from along the way and Brian House are amazed with him!

I have attached some pics of when he was on his first ride - and a few from the last couple of weeks. The smile on Kodi's face on the end picture at Robin Hood's Bay says it all!"

As a school community we are extremely proud of Kodi and all he has achieved, he has proven that young people are able to do incredibly tough challenges if they put their mind to it. He doesn't want any fuss or glory, for Kodi it is all about raising money for charity and putting others first. He certainly is an incredible example to others. Mr Penney wanted to show how proud we are of what Kodi has achieved, so he presented Kodi with a 'Golden Ticket' in assembly last week. This entitles Kodi to a free place on a reward trip of his choice, when they take place towards the end of term.

Mr Penney says "I am extremely proud of Kodi and all he has achieved. He doesn't just accept that his football team can't afford new kit, he fundraises to make sure they are provided. He is an excellent role model to other students and shows others what can be achieved if you put in the hard work." We know that Kodi will be an inspiration to others in his year group and throughout the school.
