STUDENTS were hitting all the right notes when they took part in a music workshop.

A group of Year 7 students at Carr Hill were taught how to play the music of Brazil when they were given a lesson in samba.

The workshop provided by Mr Costello from ‘Samba Bamba’ allowed students to develop their ensemble skills and allowed them to engage in other styles of music from different cultures.

Samba music is well known as a great way to express yourself and the workshop certainly enabled students to do this. They were given the opportunity to play a variety of different instruments traditionally used in Brazil, including: surdo drums, tambourines, agogo bells, wood blocks and many more.

Mr Costello was impressed with the workshop.

He said: “I thought it went very well and the students were very eager to take part. Considering we only had an hour we got a lot done.”

After the success of the workshop school will be setting up a samba band during lunchtimes. Please see Miss Murnan for further details.
