IT’S NOT just about being a doctor or a nurse…
That was the message relayed to students as an Aimhigher Fylde and Wyre roadshow revealed the huge number of options available if you pursue a career in teh health service.
With more than 350 career options in the NHS the Aimhigher initiative aims to plant the seed in youngsters’ minds about considering a future with the NHS.
And with the help of actors from Impact Universal students were given an insight into a huge variety of jobs from porters and midwives to surgeons and pharmacists.
Nicky Riley-Stead, from Aimhigher Fylde and Wyre, said the roadshows are a great way to get youngsters thinking about their future.
She said: “The NHS is a huge employer and a lot of people just aren’t conversant with all the options. There are so many possibilities and this really gets them thinking about it.
This is a fun way of showing this but there is also a very serious message and in 45 minutes you can get so many messages across in a way that young people will appreciate.”
Ms Copeland, Head of Health and Social Care, said roadshows like this are hugely beneficial.
She said: “The students really enjoy it when we have this type of activity. It’s a great way for them to see all the options that can be made available to them and helps them when considering their future careers.
“It can be very much the case that the students haven’t heard of many of the jobs available but this type of event can really light the touch paper and set a student on the right career path. We find if very helpful.”
